The Y Catalog is honored to have Shiva Rea,
internationally celebrated yoga teacher and contributor to the
global community, as our Spring/Summer ‘07 Ambassador.

Namaskaram,

This is the second issue of The Y Catalog and the synergy and effect of The Y Catalog’s intention of bringing conscious activism and seva into the world is a spark that is igniting a lot of inspiration. Having just returned from India, I recognize in The Y Catalog and the creative businesses represented here—the temple bazaar-, western style—where the sacred extends into the businesses surrounding the temple where the community naturally offers 10% to seva. For householders who are wearing clothes instead of ashes and working in the world to earn their living, it is wonderful to know where to go for lasting, high-quality (I have been wearing some of the same Shiva Shakti yoga pants for four years), environmentally conscious and action-based yoga products. If you are going to buy a gift for your beloveds or for yourself, let it be green and serving humanity.

Action doesn’t always have to be a struggle. Through joy, we have planted over 300,000 trees in partnership with Trees for the Future through a moving activism called “Dancing for Life.” It is not just the actual support that is donated but also the awareness generated. Follow up with the charitable organizations listed in The Y Catalog and you will find yourself at the grassroots pulse of action directed to some of the most critical issues of our time.

Please pass this issue on to friends and help us aid in the support of The Y Catalog’s featured charities: YouthAIDS, CARE, Earth Share, Free a Child, The Fisher House Foundation, Whole Child International, The Children’s Health Environmental Coalition, The Mukti Mission, Room to Read, Breds, The Pine Street Foundation, AIRC, Trees for the Future, Children of the Light, 3 Phases Energy, Children’s Hope Foundation, R.O.O.T.S., LifeMosaic, E+CO and finally a cause particularly close to my heart and in line with The Y Catalog’s intention—The Global Mala Project— a worldwide gathering on September 21st and 22nd to unite the global yoga community for seva and collective consciousness to form a “mala around the earth” via collective practices based upon the sacred cycle of 108. (see www.globalmala.org).

Studies abound showing the positive effect of collective actions with conscious intentions. Thank you for being the change and keep tending your sacred fire.

Love is the way.
Om Shanti,

~Shiva Rea
