The Y Catalog is honored to have Christy Turlington Burns, Model, Entreprenuer,
Author, Yogi and CARE Spokesperson, as our Spring/Summer 2008 Ambassador.

Since my first yoga class twenty years ago, I have cultivated a deeply rewarding seva practice. Nearly a decade ago, I founded two businesses with the intention to exercise this practice on a global level. The aspiration was to reach out to women who were searching for brands they could connect
with on a deeper level and, in turn, be empowered by the choices they could make as conscious consumers. Each season we would partner with a benefiting organization and donate proceeds, elevate awareness, or simply create a forum for that organization’s issues. It was through this commitment that I first came to participate in The Y Catalog for its Fall/Winter 2006 launch issue.

More and more, brands have been launching with this goal in mind, and it brings me great joy to see this movement grow as much as it has in recent years. In this issue of The Y Catalog, I am directing my lantern of light on CARE (www.care.org), an organization for whom I have been an ambassador and spokesperson for the past few years. My travels with CARE through Central and South America, as a witness to the experiences of countless women enduring and overcoming adversity, has opened up expansive new depths of compassion in me.

Through CARE’s work and their innumerable success stories, I have seen triumphs of courage and spirit that I have only dreamed about, confirming the notion that as a global community, just a little support can go quite a distance. There is no greater feeling than when you can see your own soul in another human being, for the world then becomes an intimate place where one’s own significance in it becomes clear again. In the true spirit of the meaning of service, CARE is empowering women all over the globe, and it is such a great privilege to help spread their message. This sangha, this collective that is The Y Catalog, inspires us all toward greater awareness, conscientiousness, and receiving the gift of giving back. Inspired choices can affect great change. It is with this belief that I am honored to be a part of this issue of The Y Catalog.

Thank you for supporting The Y Catalog and thank you for opening your hearts to CARE.

Namaste,

Christy
